Marie Curie

"A scientist in his laboratory is not a mere technician: he is also a child confronting natural phenomena that impress him as though they were fairy tales."

Hello to all my classmates and teacher, today I will talk about my favourite scientist: Marie Curie.
Marie Curie was a Polish and naturalized French physicist and chemist (was born on November 7, 1867 and died on July 4,1934 at 66 years) who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person and only woman to win twice, the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two different sciences: physics (1903) and chemistry (1911). She was also the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris. Her achievements included the development of the radioactivity theory, radioactive isotope isolation techniques, and the discovery of two elements that today are in the periodic table of elements: polonium (Po) and radium (Ra).
I admire Marie Curie because I think that in her time was too difficult to excel as a woman due to existed a very macho society, the women were considered below mens. Nonetheless she never gave up, exprored, discovered, analyzed and became one of the most important scientists to this day. An exemplary model to follow.
I consider this women is important because she pushed many of others womens to do what they proposed to do in their time.

  5. I'm absolutely sure that she encouraged many women to rise their voices and say what they needed to say, because she never gave up, in the science field and in that era women were undervalued

A country I'd like to visit

Mendenhall Glacier I've always thought of travelling  in order to go on vacations to a country that has nature, history, beautiful buildings, and a different dynamic than here, in Chile. That country could be U.S.A, specifically the state of Alaska. I think that everyone is thinking: why Alaska? It's too cold to think to go there! Well, I think that's so beautiful because this state show us the most beautiful things that nature and chemistry elements could give us: northern lights. The northern lights are product of the sun radiation, composition and characteristics of our atmosphere. The auroras are collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's athmosphere. The lights are seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres. The lights appear in many colors, it depends on the type of gas particles that are colliding and the distance in which it happens, for example, molecules of oxigen at 96 km are yellow...

My favourite piece of "technology"

Well, I do not know if this device is considered technological, but I think that if this instrument was called electroacoustic guitar, should have something of technological, haha. This is a piece of wood that has six strings, personally I think that this contributes in my life in a big quantity, because I'm always stressed and when I play my guitar all the things that were in my mind desappear. I've got this about 6-7 years ago. I remember that the day that my mother bought me the guitar I felt very very happy. I must admit that using this instrument cost me a lot, because I am left-handed and well, I had to acquire enough rhythm in my unskilled hand to get good results. I finally got it, I learned to play guitar alone, watching tutorials on the internet. I usually play this instrument frequently, although now I can not do this all days, the university takes away a lot of time. I think that my life without this, would be boring, there aren't any better than a l...

My future job

Well, in this blog I will talk about my future job. I'm always thinking about what kind of job I would like to have and to be honest, I change my mind constantly. In the future, I would like to have a job involved with forensic chemistry or astrochemical, also dedicate myself to inorganic and analytical chemistry, I am always among these 3 options, and I pretend to travel a lot with any of them.  I imagine these options like an amazing oportunity to grow in the career, and also to grow like a person, be more smart and know even more than we've learnt here in the university. These three options are too different, because two of them are indoor, and one of these options is outdoor. In forensic chemistry, sometimes you've to go to crime scenes and collect evidences and then investigate and draw conclusions in a laboratory. And the million question: What about salary? Honestly I don't care if I win a lot or little money, I want to be happy and good in my job. I d...
